This morning I experimented with adding ground flax see to my Shakeology Shake, and I was really happy with the results.
Why add flax? Flax seeds are an excellent source of fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. (you can read more on the WebMD site about the benefits of flax seed by clicking here). Although I love my Shakeology shake, I think the only thing that would make it better is more fiber. So, I decided to do a fiber boost to my shake. Plus the good fat in flax tends to keep me satiated for longer in addition to being great for healthy hair and nails.
How to ground flax? You can either purchase ground flax seed (via amazon, or if you are lucky enough to live near a natural store or whole foods, you can get it there). Or, if you already have flaxseeds in your house, you can just blend some in your blender. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was. I used some for my Shakeology shake, and stored the rest in the fridge for tomorrow.
How much did I add? Today I added 1 tablespoon of ground flax and that worked out really well. That tablespoon of ground flaxseed added 2 grams of fiber, 1 gram of protein, and 3 grams of healthy fat to the shake.
- Adding the ground flax we easy and convenient. I just added it into my shaker bottle at the same time I added the Shakeology (my recommended order is first water, then Shakeology).
- I was satiated for longer, which was terrific.
- In general, my body does a good job eliminating, so even though I am sure the additional fiber helped, I cannot scientifically confirm.
